Preventing Common Seasonal Infections
Coughs, colds, fever and stomach infections spread easily in homes, schools and crowded places. Simple habits reduce the chances.
At home
- Wash hands with soap before eating and after using the toilet.
- Cover the mouth and nose while coughing or sneezing.
- Drink safe water and eat freshly prepared food.
- Keep the house airy and clean.
- Do not allow water to collect around the house, to reduce mosquito breeding.
When someone at home is unwell
- Use a separate towel and, where possible, separate utensils.
- Keep the unwell person rested and hydrated.
- Avoid sending an unwell child to school until they are better.
See a doctor if
- Fever continues beyond 24 hours despite home care.
- There is breathing difficulty, continuous vomiting or loose motions.
- There is reduced urine, giddiness or drowsiness.
